Privacy Policy

1. What we collect
ChatTrail collects only what is necessary to provide the service:
- Account data — your email address and display name
- Thread metadata — title, URL, provider identifier (claude.ai, chat.openai.com, perplexity.ai), and timestamp of AI conversations you visit while the extension is active. To extract this metadata the extension reads page content (title and URL) from those tabs in a read-only, scoped manner. No conversation messages or other page content are transmitted or stored.
- Topic data — the topics and assignments you create inside ChatTrail
- Extension identifiers — a per-install ID used to link your browser extension to your account
- Authentication session data — access and refresh tokens stored locally by the extension to keep you signed in and sync metadata
We do not collect, transmit, or store the messages or conversation content of your AI conversations — only the metadata listed above.
2. How we use your data
- To provide and operate the ChatTrail service
- To sync thread metadata across your devices
- To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
- To investigate abuse or security incidents if reported
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not transfer user data to third parties except as necessary to provide the service (for example, authentication and database infrastructure). We do not use user data for purposes unrelated to ChatTrail’s single purpose.
3. Data storage and security
Your data is stored in the European Union. Access is protected by row-level access controls so you can only read and write your own data. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
4. Third-party services
ChatTrail uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and row-level access control. Stores account data, thread metadata, and topic data in the EU.
- Cloudflare — hosting and CDN for the web app, and Turnstile bot protection on signup and login forms (no tracking cookies).
No analytics, ad networks, or tracking pixels are loaded.
5. Cookies and local storage
ChatTrail uses browser local storage to persist your authentication session. No third-party cookies are set. The extension does not use cookies to track your browsing outside of Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.
6. Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (topics, threads, extension records) is permanently deleted within 30 days. You can delete your account from Settings.
7. Your rights
Under GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form.
8. Children
ChatTrail is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated by email or an in-app notice. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
